The return of Eastern Market

21 June 2009, 7:15 am

Has it really been two years since the fire at Eastern Market in DC’s Capitol Hill? Yes it has. A friend emailed me this article from the Washington Post and it just made me so happy to read about the restoration and reopening of the market.

Eastern Market was always one of my favorite spots in DC. I’m glad that it’s back, and I’m glad that it didn’t get turned into one of those horrible Authentic Urban Market Experiences managed by a suburban mall developer and featuring its own incredibly unique Starbucks, Panera, and Mrs. Field’s Cookies. Oh, and I’m glad that the bathroom is no longer terrifying.

I look forward to visiting next time I’m back in DC.
