Iowa wants you!

If you’re gay and would like to get married.

Figuring that plenty of gay couples in California are frustrated by the inability to get legally married here, representatives from Iowa have set up a booth at Gay Days at the Disneyland Resort encouraging them to consider moving to the Hawkeye State.

Iowa is one of four states nationwide that allow gay marriages. That state’s Supreme Court made the decision earlier this year.

Two representatives for three regional visitors bureaus flew out for the three-day Gay Days, when 30,000 participants roll into town to attend Disneyland. Gay Days is not sponsored by nor discouraged by Disney.

Speaking of which, congratulations to the old friend and regular reader of this blog who tied the knot in Vermont last month. Cheers!

Umm… I am happy staying in south Louisiana. It’s too fun over here to think about moving to Iowa.

That is pretty rad for Iowa, and good on ‘em. However, the main force they are working against the flat and often cold Iowa winter landscape. But I hear the real estate is cheap.

What interesting friends you must have, John. :)

Ironically I was born in Iowa and have family there, so getting married there was a distinct possibility until Vermont passed its law — giving us a chance to marry on our own property, as well as “reward” a state that enacted the law through its legislature rather than via a court case.

But I love Iowa (at least eastern Iowa – varied topography and older towns than out west) — Iowa City is particularly cool — I would gladly consider moving there for the right job, however hubby has an inordinate fear of tornados.
