Teddy has had company over before – maybe four or six guests at a time – but last night was his coming out as a canine host, with about thirty people wandering through the house for my housewarming party. And after a few initial “I must growl at strangers” and “Hey, I bet I can grab that whole chunk of cheese off the table!” moment (he failed at the latter, but only because he got caught too soon), he was great, running around from the house into the back yard, checking everybody out, getting adored, and trying to look like he was starving so people would feed him.
Here he is pre-party:
It was a nice evening. As always happens at these things, when you’re the host, you hardly get to talk to your guests though. MWK was an enormous help, taking me shopping in the morning and helping me set up and then being the bartender for much of the evening, making sure everyone had their chosen adult beverage.
Now it’s a rainy Sunday, perfect for cleaning up. (Or for drinking coffee and avoiding cleaning up.)
